“Poor Bryan, he was so scared I was going to be mad at him. Aww, my sweet face. I miss him so much now that he’s back on the road.” Brianna just rolled her eyes at her sister’s words, because all three of her siblings made fun of her for being a vegetarian. “Oh shut up, you. Do they have veggie burgers at this place? Because if not, I’m not going.”
“Obviously, they have veggie burgers at this place. I literally just said they have the food you’ll want. God Brianna, don’t you listen?” Brie jokes before getting into her car and starting it, waiting for her twin to get in, too. “Brian is always worried you’re going to be mad at him. I should prank him that way.”
Brianna playfully pushed her sister when she snatched her phone away, because that was just how the two of them were. “You know I’ll never turn down some food, so let’s go sissy pants! Where do you want to go? I’ll actually let you decide today since I always do. You know what? I don’t think I’ve seen you this nervous since that time Bryan kissed you on accident and you thought I was going to beat the shit out of you. Oh my god, so you remember that?!”
“Oh god, can we please not bring that up!” Brie laughs while making a face, scrunching up her nose. “That was so awkward and embarrassing.” She adds with a laugh. “And let’s just get something good. I’m craving burgers, but I know just the place that will allow you to get whatever your weird ass wants,” Brie chuckles, nudging her sister with a smile.
“Oh my god, Brie! Do I have to do everything? First of all, don’t text him on my phone, silly!” Brie’s phone was sitting right beside her, and Brianna quickly reached for it, handing it to Brie. “Well first, say hi, ask him how he is doing, and then, oh I know! Ask him if he’s free tomorrow to go and work out. Since you two are fitness freaks, that’s a nice little opening. You wanna start off slow before jumping into going on a dinner or movie date. Test out the waters, you know?”
Brie could feel herself flushing, embarrassment running through her as she grabbed her phone from Brianna a little roughly. “God, Brianna, way to make me feel like an idiot,” she mumbles, eyes wide right before she sticks her tongue out at her sister. “Right, yeah. Sounds about right,” she responds before doing just that on her own phone and then setting it down. “So. How about some lunch so I’m not constantly thinking about his response?”
“I honestly don’t feel like I’m too invested in anything, Brie! Is it such a crime that I want to see my sisters happy? My brother too? Stop trying to make me feel bad!” Brianna’s phone went off again, and she smiled when she saw the message from Colby, but instead of reading it back to her sister, she shoved the phone into her hands, so she could see for herself. “He said stop being shy, and talk to him yourself. Do it, do it, do it!”
Brie fumbled with her sister’s phone, barely catching it before she looked at the texts and her heart began to race. She continued to stare at her sister’s phone for a few moments, blinking, before looking at Brianna with wide eyes. “What do I say?”
Brianna just rolled her eyes, because of course Colby was probably working out, all he did was work out. “I swear if that man could marry a Crossfit gym, he so would.” Apparently they were wrong, and Brianna’s phone suddenly started vibrating, and she started to laugh when she read his message. “He gave me the eye roll emoji because I said I’d kick his ass, so this is already going splendid! Anyway, he wants to know why you didn’t just ask him out yourself?”
Brie found herself frowning slightly. She could understand Brianna’s reason for rolling her eyes. She wasn’t into always working out, unlike Brie herself. She knew that if Colby could marry a Crossfit gym, Brie would be right there next to him. “Tell him you took over without any say from me,” Brie snorts, knowing how true it is and not minding the least. “You’re too invested in seeing me have a love life, you just couldn’t wait,” she adds on sarcastically, smirking at her sister.
“Great! I would have taken both of you with me, but little Miss worker bee over here was on the road!” Brianna felt like she needed to explain why it had been Nicole to go with her at first, because the three sisters could still, and probably always would, have their moments where they felt jealous when one of them was spending more time with the other, and Brianna never wanted either one of her sisters to feel left out. “Colby takes too long to text back. I’m already growing impatient over here!”
Brie found herself shrugging, not minding too much. Her sister had a point, though. She was always on the road with the company, maybe because she had no one to really go home to – maybe because she didn’t really have a home to go home to. Sure, she had a place, but it wasn’t really a home, you know? “Well, maybe he’s working out something,” she responds eventually, nerves settling at the bottom of her stomach.
“I guess that’s the only silver lining, we are having fun trying, numerous times. Sorry!” Brianna couldn’t hide the small laugh that escaped her, because her sister hated when she went into too much detail about her sex life. “Yeah, we have been to two fertility specialist, actually, and they both said everything is just fine. I’m extremely fertile. Nicole went with me for my last check up, and I was hoping you’d go with me this time? Bryan is going to be in Orlando on that day.” While she listened to her sister’s words, Brianna pulled her phone out and started texting Colby, just like she promised she would.
Brie let out a small laugh at Brianna’s antics, knowing her sister was sorry but that she’d continue it anyways. She felt a small measure of hurt that Nicole had gone with Brianna to the clinic but it quickly went away when her sister asked her to come with her to the next one. “Of course I’ll come with you, Bria.” Brie whispers, hugging her sister after using her own nickname for her sister.
Brianna was definitely excited now because she just wanted to see both her sisters happy, but Brie especially, because she deserved it. “I am going to text him and I’m going to start the conversation off with, if you mess with my sister, I’ll shoot your ass. Now if only me getting pregnant was this easy.” A small sigh escaped Brianna, because this wasn’t something she’d talked about a lot, her troubles getting pregnant, but she knew she could trust Brie, and she wouldn’t say anything to anyone.
Brie frowned,wrinkling her nose at how Brianna was going to start the text with Colby before it became a frown about her sister’s pregnancy woes.She stepped close, sling her arm around Brianna’s shoulders and bringing her close to her. “Hey, at least you guys are having fun trying, right?” Brie asks, her voice in a strained whisper. “Well, have you guys tried to go to a doctor about it? Make sure everything’s working?” Brie hated bringing up such a fact but she knew her sister and her husband would never want to do such a thing without intervention themselves.
Brianna had always suspected that Brie had a thing for their fellow co-worker, because she knew her sister, and could tell when she liked someone. That kind of changed when that whole cheating scandal went down, but like Brie said, maybe Colby just needed a good woman. “Well, I don’t know, I feel like he learned his lesson and that he’s changed? Besides, he’ll know that if he ever cheats on you, he’ll have an entire army of angry Italians and Mexicans waiting to beat the living hell out of him. You’ll never know unless you give it a chance, Brie! Come onnnn, let me talk to him for you!”
Brie found herself looking down, biting on her lower lip as she thought about what Brianna had said. Her sister had been right, like always, when she said that Colby would know he’d be screwed if he ever hurt her. But Brie didn’t ever want to give him the chance to hurt her, if she was being honest. She didn’t think she could ever recover from her heart breaking like that. But at the same time, Brianna was right. She couldn’t live her life in fear, and she had to give the man in question a chance. With a playful sigh, Brie looked at her sister and nodded her head, smiling when Brianna cheered.
While her sister was speaking, Brianna was already going over a little list in her mind of people she could possibly hook Brie up with, and she quickly clapped her hands together at the first name that popped into her brain. “What about Colby?! I mean, he’s single now, I think? And he needs a good woman in his life to keep him grounded, and maybe you can bring that ego of his down a notch or two. I don’t even want to talk about John. Honestly, I try so hard to accept Nicole and his relationship, but I just can’t. He’s making her sacrifice too much. What has he given up? Not one damn thing.”
Brie paused in her sentences, eyes blinking in surprise at her sister’s interruption before she finally understands what she’s saying. She has to think about it for a few minutes, pursing her lips as she thinks about Colby. “Well,” she whispers, chewing on her bottom lip, “He definitely needs a good woman but how would I know he’d be loyal?” She asks with a shrug, trying to avoid the fact that she’s thought about it before.
